Chiropractic

Man's SpineUsing whole body and spinal structural assessment, chiropractic strives to identify and remove barriers to fluid movement in order to enhance function. Although perhaps best known for effective treatment of neck and back pain, chiropractic care is also a potent intervention in the treatment of headache, hip, knee, and shoulder pain and dysfunction, as well as other joint and muscle complaints. Typical office visits involve full body assessment with an extensive history and physical exam, followed by treatment consisting of manual therapies, physical therapy modalities, and therapeutic and rehabilitative exercise prescription. Diet and lifestyle recommendations are usually added to help improve and maintain overall health, well-being, and quality of life. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” This procedure is done on the affected joints and soft tissue to restore mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness and allowing joints, muscles, and ligaments to heal more quickly and completely. Our approach to chiropractic at Hawthorne Wellness Center is distinctive in that we utilize the latest available research and clinical evidence to guide our treatment. We also strive to find solutions to each individual’s needs and help empower patients to take an active part in managing their conditions. This partnership helps to decrease the need for ongoing care.

Woman Getting MassageTherapeutic massage addresses superficial and deep muscle layers with a variety of techniques that involve kneading and stretching. The many benefits of massage include reduction of physical pain, increased range of motion, flexibility, a bolstered immune system, stimulation of blood and lymph circulation, accelerated recovery from injury, and reduced stress and anxiety. By physically assessing the troubled areas and discussing client needs, massage therapists can relieve tension through detailed massage work on specific areas.

Acupuncture

AcupunctureAcupuncture is part of a complete system of medicine that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. The goal of treatment is to bring the body closer to an optimal state of functioning by engaging its natural healing response to reverse the progression of disease or to prevent disease from occurring. The acupuncturists in our clinic are adept at managing a wide variety of conditions, with particular focus on pain management, chemotherapy-related side effects (including nausea), fertility and women’s issues, headaches and migraines, and fibromyalgia. Research from leading institutions such as the National Institutes of Health clearly shows that acupuncture is efficacious for many types of pain. Studies also confirm its use for post-operative, pregnancy-related, and chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting. The anti-inflammatory effect of treatments make it suitable for addressing symptoms associated with seasonal allergies and some auto-immune disorders. Many other conditions can also benefit from acupuncture. The World Health Organization has listed more than 40 conditions for which acupuncture may be indicated. Acupuncture is safe, effective, and deeply relaxing for most people. Treatments involve the insertion of one or more thin, sterile needles on specific points of the body to improve and maintain health.
